Light Rigid (LR) Truck Licence

A ONE-DAY COURSE:

Individuals interested in acquiring the Light Rigid (LR) Licence may find this pathway beneficial if they intend to join the NSW Ambulance Service, operate school minibuses, community buses, motorhomes, or light courier trucks. We offer automated training vehicles at Arndell Park (Western Sydney), with courses available seven days a week.

The Light Rigid (LR) Licence authorizes drivers to operate:

  • Any rigid motor vehicle weighing more than 4.5 tonnes but not exceeding 8 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).
  • Vehicles with a GVM of less than 8 tonnes and equipped with more than 12 seats (including the driver), such as Toyota Commuter, Toyota Coaster, and Mitsubishi Rosa.
  • Additionally, drivers are permitted to tow a trailer if their vehicle is equipped with an appropriate tow ball/bar, provided that the trailer’s GVM does not exceed 9 tonnes

GETTING YOUR LR (LIGHT RIGID) LICENCE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Course fee: $770

Here are five simple steps to enroll in our course and commence your Heavy Rigid Licence training today:

  • Pass the Light Rigid Knowledge Test at your local Motor Registry or Service NSW. Practice the test here. RMS Fee: $48.
  • Pass the eyesight test and acquire your HVCBA Learners Logbook Class LR. RMS Fee: $28.
  • Call ABC Driving School (Arndell Park) to schedule a date for your LR Licence course.
  • Attend and successfully complete your training course. Your assessor will issue you a Certificate of Competence.
  • Return to the Motor Registry, submit your certificate, and apply for your upgraded licence.
  • (Note: You will receive an interim licence while your plastic card is being processed. Refer to the RMS website for details.) RMS Fee: $28.
