Our HR Licence Driving Course is carried out in One day where we use our Automatic and Synchromesh gearbox truck to conduct training and assessment to complete HVCBA. Completing our HR licence course will enable you to obtain heavy rigid truck or bus licence, HR truck licence will enable you drive LR, MR and HR trucks on automatic, synchromesh or constant mesh gearbox.HR licence also for upskilling Driver from LR licence and MR licence.

 

What you need to obtain HR licence (prerequisites/ eligibility)

 

HR Truck Licence is the highest class of licence one can upgrade to from class C (Car) Licence.

In order to upgrade to HR (Heavy Rigid) Truck Licence in NSW you would need to have held your class C ( Full or P) for 24 months. Time you have spent on P1 licence does count but you won’t be able to practice driving a rigid vehicle on P1. You can only upgrade to HR licence if you hold P2 or full class C licence.

 

If you are eligible to upgrade to HR Truck Licence in Sydney upgrading your licence will take following three easy steps

 

  • 1- Pass knowledge test (DKT) Heavy rigid  @ service NSW
  • 2- Pass Eyesight Test @ Service NSW

HR Truck Licence Knowledge Test

 

Knowledge test is required if you are upgrading from a class C (Car) Licence, If you already hold LR or MR licence you won’t be required to do a knowledge test for rigid vehicle.

You can Practice for knowledge test here, This knowledge test for Rigid Vehicle consists of two parts, First part contains 15 General Questions out of which you have to correctly answer at least 12 questions, second part contains 30 questions related to road safety out of which you have to correctly answer at least 29 questions  You can also refer to Heavy Vehicle driver handbook to prepare yourself for knowledge test.  Once you pass the Rigid Vehicle Licence Knowledge test you would also need to pass an eyesight test at Service NSW.

 

HR Truck Licence Eye sight Test

 

For Heavy Rigid Licence class all drivers must meet the eyesight standard set out in the publication Assessing Fitness to Drive HR Truck Licence requires drivers to pass eyesight test every time they renew the licence.

 

If you wear contact lenses or glasses for you eyesight test this will be added as a condition to your licence and if later on you stop using contact lenses or glasses and pass an eyesight test without them the condition will be removed. Completing HVCBA:

 

Primarily Heavy Vehicle Licence (LR, MR, HR, MC, HC) is obtained by Completing Heavy Vehicle Competency based Assessment (HVCBA) with a training provider who is accredited by Road & maritime services.  This pathway of obtaining HR truck Licence gives you flexibility of choosing your instructor and also you can train & assessed in vehicle of your choice, you are also able to choose your own appointment time with the instructor.

 

In order to obtain Heavy Rigid Licence through HVCBA, You need to visit Service NSW service centre in person and:

 

 

You will be issued with a Learner’s log book for HVCBA and will also receive a Guide to Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment. Material you receive will have detailed information on tasks that needs to be performed to successfully complete the training and Assessment. Your learning will be recorded in your logbook by the RMS accredited assessor.

Heavy Rigid Truck Licence

 

HR License Course Content:

  • Criteria 3 – Start, move off, shut down and secure
  • Criteria 4 – Manage Steering
  • Criteria 5 – Manages Gears
  • Criteria 6 – Manages Brakes
  • Criteria 7 – Manages Accelerator
  • Criteria 8 – Create & Maintain Crash Avoidance Space
  • Criteria 9 – Protect Crash Avoidance Space
  • Criteria 10 – Road Rules and Directions
  • Criteria 11 – Reversing
  • Criteria 12 – Hill Stop/Start
  • Criteria 13 – Load Securing
  • Criteria 14 – Bus Stop Procedure (If course is conducted in a bus only)

 

Our training course is designed to train you on above mentioned criteria and all progress is recorded in your logbook which shows that you are developing skills to meet the required criteria.

You need to retain your logbook until you pass the final assessment. After training when you have developed the skills for safe operation of a heavy vehicle you will be signed off. You will be required to undergo the final assessment after completing the training course. Final Assessment is recorded by a camera in cabin as per the requirement from Roads and Maritime service. If you pass the final Assessment you will be issued a certificate of national heavy vehicle driver Competency framework (Certificate of competency) which can be taken to RMS to get your licence issued.

 

As per RMS requirement training and assessment will be conducted by different assessors which means one of our team assessors who completed your training won’t be the one conducting the assessment.

 

Once you successfully complete HVCBA through one of our RMS accredited assessor your results will be submitted to RMS by the assessor electronically. Assessor will retain your logbook where learning progress is recorded.

 

You can then attend a Service NSW service centre in person and apply for your upgraded licence. You’ll need to:

 

Once you have paid the fees and had your photo taken you will be issued a temporary paper licence and Licence card will be posted by mail to your registered address. You will be able to start driving Heavy Rigid Vehicles using the Temporary paper licence.

 

How much will it cost for completing HVCBA Training and Assessment for HR licence upgrade

 

At Payless driving school we offer training and Assessment in one day which includes 6 hours of training in our truck with required breaks in between and 45 min assessment after you have completed your training. Our Prices depends on multiple factors including day of the week and existing booking we have in our schedule. What can I drive with HR Licence

 

HR Licence is as high as you can go in order to drive a rigid truck. By Obtaining HR Licence u can drive  in Australia and international in some countries. you will be able to drive trucks and buses over 8 tonne GVM with three or more axel and you can have a maximum towing weight of 9 tonnes.

HR Licence comes with two classes. It will be either unrestricted licence (you can drive any gearbox) or with B Condition ( which is manual synchromesh and automatic gearbox)

 

Types of gear boxes in Heavy Rigid Vehicles

 

Automatic gearbox for HR vehicles is similar to automatic gear box in a car

Synchromesh gearbox for HR vehicle is similar to manual gear box in a car having single clutch

Non-Synchromesh gearbox refers to crash/road ranger gearbox which requires double clutching to change the gears and engine revs needs to be matched with speed on the road.

if you do your training and driving test on auto truck  steel you can drive a manual synchromesh as well

 

Licence conditions (B) explanation

 

You can always do another practical driving test at a later date in a Non-Synchromesh vehicles gearbox refers to (Crash / road Ranger gearbox) in order to remove conditions (B) from your licence depending upon what vehicle is used.
